Vehere features award winning Australian pianist/composer SEAN FORAN - from the trio MISINTERPROTATO,
Norwegian vocalist KARI BLEIVIK, and Belgian clarinetist JOACHIM BADENHORST.

Vehere formed in late 2008 after Foran and Bleivik put together a group to perform new music while Foran was located in Leeds, UK. An obvious choice was the clarinetist Badenhorst, who Foran had worked with previously in Canada. The initial chemisty at shows and recordings in the UK in October 2008 was stunning. The trio draw upon their various cultural influences to create music that conjures up sounds of scandinavian folk music, contemporary improvised music, and a range of jazz, world, folk traditions and ideas.

A true international trio, they combine the skills of three young artists, each with a distinct personal voice and extensive international performing and recording experience. Haunting, captivating and truly mesmerising, this trio take listeners into a realm of sounds rich in emotion, with impressive improvisations and limitless interaction between musicians.

Their debut album “UNRAVELLING” recorded in the UK in February 2009 features new compositions by the award winning composer Sean Foran plus thoughtful re-imaginings of music by Nick Drake, swedish folk songs and obscure jazz standards.

An intriguing set of chamber jazz pieces- very well done. It does venture a bit outside at times, as well as to a wide spread of points on the spectrum from modern jazz to classical, but never lingers too long in any one place. Highly recommended! Deidre House
